Just six Syrian families applied to Armenian authorities for refuge
Just six Syrian families - a total of 14 people - have applied to the Armenian authorities for refuge as a result of the last events in Syria, Head of the National Migration Service of Armenia Gagik Yeganyan told journalists on Thursday.
Their applications are being considered, with the answer to be given within 10 days. For the moment the Syrians are living in a special hostel for refugees, owned by Apastan NGO. "If the inflow of refugees grows, we will enroll additional resources," Yeganyan said. When asked why so few people have applied for refuge, he said that perhaps many are unaware of this opportunity or are unwilling to leave their homes. Almost 60,000 Armenians live in Syria.
