Vano Merabishvili appointed the new Prime Minister of Georgia

Administration of the President of Georgia confirmed the appointment of Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili as Prime Minister of Georgia.

According to the web page the Georgian president, Mikheil Saakashvili announced a new appointment at the presidential palace about 18 pm local time.

Ivane Merabishvili is an old ally of President Saakashvili. Since December 31, 2004, he served as Interior Minister, and before that was secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia.

Prime Minister Nika Gilauri also served as prime minister from February 6, 2009.

Experts say that Saakashvili's decision is a strong move on the eve of parliamentary elections to be held in October this year. Merabishvili appreciate both the authorities and opposition.

According to various polls, Merabishvili considered the most successful minister in the government of Georgia
